I am getting ready to do T/G 1/2" deep on about 40' of pine. Have 3 1/4 HP router in table. Can you give me some hints on the number of passes that I should make?
Thanks,
Chuck

A router that size should have no problem making that in one pass. However, if I were doing it, I would probably make 2 passes, maybe even 3 with the last one being a very light cut.

Thanks Guy,
I have really never ran the T/G bits. They are the CMTs and sure seem sharp. I will at least try the one pass and then a final light cut.
Thanks,
Chuck

Pine 2 passes. Hardwood like maple or oak.....3 passes.

I assume not all 40 feet at once :D . I use the 1/4" X 1/4" method; if the area I am removing is greater than 1/4" X 1/4", I make multiple passes. You'll know after the first couple of runs how much the material can tolerate. The router shouldn't complain, it's the material that will tell the tale (burn, chatter, whatever).

I have done several hundred feet of 3/4" v joint t&g with a Milwaukee 3 1/2 hp router and did it all in one pass with no difficulty. It was pine. I have Whiteside bits.
