At last summer's ParrBQ Dennis Peacock loaned me a chunk of silver poplar. He got the shavings back a couple months ago and I kept this part. I turned it not long after I got home, and it had the some of saddest color and most pitiful grain I've seen in a long time. Don't worry Dennis - it's all Joe's fault.

Nothing I tried brought out anything in the wood that looked good, so ya know what that means --- off to the Missus. I have no idea what she did to it, but here ya go. It's about 10" across by 8" tall or thereabouts.

If nothing else, it's different.

Uh... Andy, I think she made a bowl for her old crow to eat out of :) Or I suspect that was the influence for the birds. I think she did great!!

Having Mrs. Hoyt paint poplar could become POPULAR! Well done on both your parts!

What a nice paint / dye job!

The translucent colors on the inside allow you to see the wood and the crows around the rim are really done well.

I wish I had that talent. I can draw all of the straight lines that you want, but painting is waaaaay out of my league!

Nice bowl too!

Andy...
I don't think it's "If nothing else, it's different."
I think it's... If nothing else it shows a wonderful talent that makes one wonder about her marriage decision.;)

Andy, I just don't know quite what to say about this piece. Words can't describe my admiration for the talent it takes to do this kind of work. Great job by both of you.:)

Well now...just look at the figure and grain in the bowl Andy!!!! :p :p

Looks like Mrs. Hoyt bailed us BOTH outta trouble on the wood and the turning. :D

Very nice Mrs Hoyt:D , the interior is awsome and the ravens give it a pacific northwest tribal indian flavor seen in their culture from here ( north Idaho ) to South East Alaska. Very well done indeed. !!!! Are you from the PNW by any chance?

.... Are you from the PNW by any chance? Nope. But I once stayed in a Holiday Inn out that way.:D

Once again - Thanks all. Your praises and kudos will be tendered to Chrystine just moments before she is about to remind me of something I did wrong.

We have a few more of these. Wanna see 'em?
