Wood gloats!!!! first batch that you see on the lathe is from the one and only Barry Stratton!!! THANKS!!!! Second batch in the trailer is more black walnut from the same guy as that batch a few months ago, another of his trees fell down.... What was really interesting was at the base the wood was completely light, no dark whatsoever! maybe 3 foot diam is my guess.... anchorsealed them all, and waiting for my dad to get a new chainsaw chain so we can rip them length wise to take the pith out... :D:D:D:D any idea why there is that blue tinting around the dark center wood?

Very nice haul. My only guess on the blue would be that the soil had an unusally high copper content, either that or you have the rarest spalting ever.

We often see blue like that when there is metal present in the wood. Metal is common in yard trees. nails, fence staples etc. Thus, I would check these with a metal detector to be sure there is none present as hitting that with a lathe tool could ruin it. Or worse cause injury.
