View Full Version : I gave a speech in shop for a woodworking club

This may or may not be of interest but I thought I would post it anyway. About a
month ago I was asked be a local woodworking club (of which I don't belong)
to give a talk about my shop and woodworking. I asked why me? He (the president
of the club) had seen pictures of my shop and thought their members would be
interested in seeing it and hearing how I built it as well as my woodworking. I can't
imagine that I would have anything to say to keep anybody interested, but I agreed
to do it.

I am definitely not a speaker and was a little apprehensive about standing in front
of people I don't know, but at least I was talking about a subject I had some knowledge
about.

It took place last Saturday and if I must say went very well. Thirty three people showed
up! My brother was there to take pictures and after I got into my talk I was oblivious
to him taking the pictures. After a while they stopped me to give me a break and a
drink and so they could do some club business. Then I was asked to continue. My
brother said I talked for about an hour of which I had no idea.

Here are just a few pictures. Actually from the pictures it might seem boring.
I'm the one in the red shirt.

Good going Dave, looks like you could have the population of the entire area in your shop without too much trouble.:D :D

Good for you Dave,

I'm sure they were duly impressed with your beautiful shop.

Great, Dave! It is always great to see a group of people enjoying someone's shop for such a meeting. And I am sure they all enjoyed your beautiful shop.

What I think best, though, is that you opened your shop to a woodworking club. I am the 2006-2007 President of the St Joseph, MO Woodworkers Guild; as a result, LOML and I are always looking for an opportunity to ask someone if they could make their shop available for a meeting.

The main problem we seem to have is that many of our members' shops don't have enough room for the 35 to 50 people that normally attend our meetings. But your shop DEFINITELY has more than enough room, for sure!

I am very glad it turned out so well, Dave. Thanks for sharing!

Nice going and congratulations on doing a fine job. It reminds me of the number of times I was asked to do either a presentation or speach in front of crowds back when I was much more involved in the local dirt track auto racing scene. I think the fact that you are speaking about something that means so much to you, and that you know a little something about, definitely helps to alleviate the apprehension that you think you will have.
