View Full Version : New Jointer Fence Won't Stay Square

Hi All,

My first post here since I have be lurking at the Pond for awhile.

I recently purchased and had delievered a new 8" jointer (I'll withhold the manufacturer name for now). After setting it up and trying several test cuts, I realized the fence won't stay square to the table if it is moved. In other words, if I square the fence at the back of the table (for a widest cut) and then move the fence towards the rabbit ledge, it gets progressively more "unsquare" the furthur you move it. Over the width of the 8' table, it gets .016 out of square.

My question is this. Is this normal for jointers and something I just have to live with? Does anyone know what an acceptable tolerance for jointers is when it comes to this issue?

I discovered the problem lies with the table the fence rides on. I called the company and they sent me a replacement, but it is more out of square than the first one.

Any and all comments please, and of course, thank you in advance for your response.

A Great little (big) forum you have here at the Creek!
