Shellac - Wax Usage Question

Can I put Johnson's Paste wax directly over Zinsser's Amber 2lb cut shellac and expect good results?

Or should there be an interim step before the wax?

Sure - no problem at all. If you want a lower luster finish, you might rub out the shellac with a bit of 0000 steel wool lubricated with mineral spirits before waxing. Wax and shellac are very compatible - Shellac even has wax still in it, unless it's been purposely de-waxed prior to use.
