Does anyone know the ideal setting for engraving the Chewbarka's dog tags. On some of mine they turn a black or dark grey color. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. 25W Epilog.

Dennis:
On my old machine, a 25 watt ULS I used 45p, 100s at 500 dpi. Too much power and you go through the anodized surface to the aluminum.

Dennis, On the M-360 ULS (40W), we use 45 power, 100 speed, and 600 ppi, with an engraving depth of 6 - we also use the 1.5" lens. Don't know if this will help you, but seems to work for us.

Dennis,
I'm doing photohraphs on the tags. If the tag is lighter than neutral gray, use a negative image, if it's a dark tag, use positive.
For photos, turn it to grayscale and make sure it has good contrast, but don't overdo it. Every color tag needs slightly different power.
Mercury 40 watt settings for photos are:
Silver tag: p15 s50
Green tag p8 s50
Red tag p15 s50
Black tag p20 s50
You'll have to play around. Start low and if not enough do a second pass.
For just lettering I use 50/50 or higher for all colors
Use the highest ppi for the photos.
The light colors like silver and pink really don't do good contrast photos, but the effect is sort of hologram looking.

Dennis,
For text I use the factory Epilog settings, for anodized aluminum. For Photo's I run at 85 SPD 35 PWR 600 DPI. Always seems to work on my Epilog Mini 25W. Hope this helps.
