Burned Ash confetti lamp

I've been playing around with scraps for confetti lamps the past couple days. This was some pretty non-descript Ash, so I went crazy with my burning tool.
4" diameter by about 3 1/4" tall.

Very easy to make Jonathon. Just a few dollars for the parts you'll need. Here's a link to the instructions to make the holder.

Add a dimmer switch to the AC input of a battery charger to vary the heat and connect the output to the leads of the pen. I believe I used 18 ga. nichrome wire to make the tips, which can be easily shaped into different patterns.

After looking at your burner, looks like your pen is made from PVC. If it is, how hot does it get when your using it? Also; I presume your using the battery charger on the 6 amp side...?

Randy, I used hot water PVC pipe. It's comfortable to hold with no heat problems. It will get pretty warm at the burner end. I've found it works best at around 7 amps, so I think a 10 amp charger would be ideal. I need to replace mine as it can be a pain keeping it adjusted on the verge of overload.

The PDF file specifies a phenalic (sp) tube. Your version appears to be PVC tubing. Or am I seeing something that isn't there? Phenolic tubing is something I'm having difficulty in locating in small quantities.
