 I have owned DP's with both the rod type and turret type travel stop, and not been satisfied with either. Whose machine has the best stop? I'm ready for a change.

I am looking for a long quill travel of 6" , and that means a rod stop, on a Delta Drill Press. I like the turret stop, but I sometimes use the DP for milling operations, so the rod stop is better at that type of work. The speed nuts are a must for a rod stop!

If you have the $$$ and the time I would look into mill/drill machines for an improved stop mechanism.

Thanks for the response, Eddie. I think I know what you mean by 'speed nuts' on a post type stop, but I'm not sure. Which manufacturer uses them?

Speed nuts are a nut that has a button on the side. You push the button and the nut is then free to slide up and down the shaft.

Here is a page that has a picture of a speed nut about 2/3 rds of the way down on the right.

I prefer a rod stop like the one in the link above.
