I have this bug bad, it comes in spurts and well I can't stop it. So when I'm on a roll.... I was looking at this new scraper and didn't find the shape I wanted in it, so I went to fastenal and looked around. And bought 18" of cold rolled A36 Steel for 2.36$ Applied some careful grinding and here is what I came up with:

Step 1 http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/goyde/DSC01375.jpg
Step 2 http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/goyde/DSC01376.jpg
Step 3 http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/goyde/DSC01377.jpg
Step 4 http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/goyde/DSC01378.jpg

Yeah she's a beast 18" long x 1" wide x .5" thick. And cuts like a dream !

I need to turn a handle for it. Well after I grind the tang on it. I know A36 is not HSS but it is working just fine.

That'll do Keith! More mass is better. Nice profile as well. Looks like you ground a negative rake angle on the top side ?? Scrapers actually don't need to be HSS. Softer steel is easier to turn up a nice burr, it just doesn't last very long. These beasts are not really meant for heavy turning anyway, mostly for those light finishing shear scrapes. Hope you show it again with a nice custom handle!:) Making your own tools is one of my favorite parts of turning!

Keith that is a beast. I don't think you need to worry about being HSS. Like Don said it is just going to be like your final cut or two. Nice job. Like to see it after it is handled.
