Well I liked Jim Ketron's confetti lamps so much that I decided to rip off his idea and try one of my own. This is some cottonwood, about 7" x 3". The first two pictures are from the front and back sides, the third is of the bottom. The bottom had some of that nice cottonwood curly wavy wood. I almost wished I'd flipped the piece over.

Beautifully done Curt. What did you use for a finish on that one?

Wow!! Who knew that cottonwood was so pretty. Back in my adopted home state of Kansas it is considered by many a trash wood.

QUESTION: who carries the lamp inserts? I've got to make some of those lamps !!!

Thanks everyone.

Ken, the finish is Deft Gloss Lacquer. I used Deft sanding sealer first, a couple coats sanded with 600 in between and then a top coat of the gloss.

Rusty, my wife got these at Michaels craft store but Jim and Travis said they got them at Walmart. They're called Ultra-Pure Liquid Candle, a plastic sealed unit that you throw away when it's empty.

Thanks Curt.
If Michael's and Wal-Mart carries the lamps, I bet Hobby Lobby does to!

When I first looked at them also the first questioned that came to my head was why did he not flip that wood?? I guess you can't really see what you have until it is more or less finished. Anyway job well done. Take a bow.

Question~ where did the name for those lamps come from and why are they called that?? anyone care to enlighten me??

I don't know what happened to my post but will try again. Is there like a page 2 to this?? Anyway my first thoughts were the same as to why did you not turn the piece upside down but guess you don't really know what treasure you have until just about finished. Great job though.

My question is what is a confetti lamp and why are they called that??
