Looking to incorporate a hidden compartment into a blanket chest behind one or more of the 3 drawers that will makeup the lower portion of the chest. Once upon a time I read an article on doing this on a coffee table but have no idea where I saw the article. By chance does anyone know where I can find info on doing such?
Thanks
Bob

The December,2002 issue #159 of FWW did an article on hidden compartments.

There are a bunch of ways you could do it, with one being a very shallow set of drawers that would fit behind the regular drawers.

Thanks Rob, it's along the lines of the thin rear drawers that I'm looking. There has to be more eloquent ways for doing it then what I can dream up.

You can also use SOSS hinges to make hidden panels. I'm not sure that I want to know what you're trying to hide.

Just a thought related through anecdote.

When I was about 12 or13 there was a fella who used my fathers

studio and workshop, well, because we are like that. His real occupation,

though murky was listed as cabinet maker. That is if you count

roulette, craps and card tables destined for just off Mulberry street as

cabinetry. Real long story short, he was commisioned to build a desk

for a gentelman of standing in the community, (More then likely, standing

on the street in his pajamas.) With hidden compartments.

And he showed me how he hid the seams. He would break them.

Sonny he says, if a you cutta the panel you a gonna see the line.

you a break ita like this, alonga the grain you will never see it.

And you couldn't. Many were challenged to find the compartments as a

test, they were hidden in plain sight and no one could.

My opinion about secret compartments, they need to be made through the builders ingenuity, and like a good magic trick, kept that way.

or else they aren't really secret.
