Well finally got the last coat of finish on them. I made plates made of cherry that were 11 1/4" across. I finished them with General Finish Seal-A-Cell and Arm-R-Seal. I really like that finish. I thought they turned out pretty well. The LOML and my sister are both eyeing them pretty hard.

Very nice, Bernie. Way to stretch out that Rikon..........

Any chance of seeing your foot detail? I do a lot of plates, too, and usually just leave the chuck recess pretty much as is.

Pretty wood, beautiful job.

Rich I pretty much just do a 2 or 3 rings. Such as this. I think it makes it look a little better.

Thanks for the comments. They are a lot of fun to do. I am going to be making a set of curly maple plates. I am hoping to sell this set at the craft fair in 3 weeks. This will be my first one so hoping I can sell a few bowls, lidded boxes, and a set or two of plates.

I was already told the cherry wasn't going to the craft fair. Oh well.

Thanks Bernie, those look nice.

When you say you like that finish..............is it an application thing, wear resistance, sheen, etc?

Again, beautiful plates. As others have stated, storage space at a minimum here, but I could make room for those......... :D

Rich

Richard it takes some time to apply but seems to be a real durable finish. Takes about 4 days to apply. I put the Seal on and wait 24. Then start with Arm-r-Seal and put a coat on every 24. Like the looks and durability.

Bob I am not sure yet. The LOML and my sister are still talking about it.

Thanks again. I tell ya cherry no matter if it is wet or kiln dried is a joy to turn. I think baby sister is going to win out on this batch though. I need to get the curly maple ones done cause they are sold for $440 for a set of 8.

Those were done on the Rikon? Wow, I like seeing nice things done on equipment I own - I may not have the experience and skill at this point, but it's good to know that I won't be limited by the equipment.

Those look real nice - you might have to send me one so I can see how the pro's do it. :P

Time for me to get out in the shop and get turning!

Yep Chris those came of the Rikon and started out just a little over 11 1/2". I could have gone 12" and I think would have still been able to turn them. If cut round on a bandsaw it will take a full 12".
