Winner will have 48 hours to post in this thread to claim his/her prize, if selected.

John, from SharpeningSupplies.com (http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com), has graciously donated TWO great woodworking sharpening kits.

FreeStuff #1
The first is the Woodworking Essentials Kit (http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com/Woodworking-Essentials-Sharpening-Kit-P47C18.aspx) with an 8" DMT Diamond Stone with stone holder, and an 8" Norton Water Stone. From the site:

This kit is a great starting point for the beginning woodworker to start sharpening. We designed this kit to offer top quality components that are well matched for basic woodworking sharpening needs. The kit contains a 8” DMT® Duosharp® Plus Coarse/Fine stone and a Norton 4000/8000 combination waterstone. The combination of stones is ideally suited for woodworking because it takes advantage of the best attributes of both the diamond stones and waterstones.

FreeStuff #2
The second is what he terms the Ultimate Woodworking Kit (http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com/Ultimate-Woodworking-Sharpening-Kit-P86C18.aspx). It features ONE 10" DMT Diamond Stone with stone holder, and TWO 8" Norton Water Stones, with a value of $221.90. From the above link:

This woodworking sharpening kit will serve as a complete sharpening system for many years. We’ve found this to be the ultimate combination for keeping chisels and plane blades sharp. This kit contains the ultimate matched set of stones. The grits progress nicely from one grit to the next to speed up the process of sharpening. Since all the stones use water, the cleanup is fast and easy. In addition, the diamond stone is flat and stays flat. It also allows you to use easily maintain a flat surface on the softer water stones.

Please visit John's site (http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com) and let's give him some thanks for donating such great products to two lucky members!

Well, Greetings all....I'm new to this forum and have learned alot in the last two days just reading posts. Coincidentally, I was also just on the Shapening site. Very nice and thank you, John for your generosity. My situation is that I have purchased many things with blades in the last year and a half and they are just now starting to need attention (especially the chisels) so I've decided that the next woodworking "technique" I learn will be how to sharpen everything I own. I look forward to reading more from everyone here.

heh. last time I tried to do a "real" flattening of a smallish plane blade, I looked the other way and sliced a deep gouge in my thumb. Clearly I have the wrong equipment as it can't be MY fault, right?.... :)

fortunately (or not) it was so damn sharp by that point i hardly felt it (at first). So i bled all over the place till I noticed and almost gave my wife a heart attack.

heh.
that'll teach me!

It's incredibly nice of you to contribute. Thanks again!

John, I just checked your site and saw you do not currently ship to Canada. If you ever decide to use the U.S. Postal Service, UPS hits us with "surprise" huge brokerage charges. There was a thread on this in one of the Canadian WW forums recently, one guy bought a $30 item and UPS hit him with a $50 brokerage fee.

By which I mean, what do I need to do to get this stuff?

Also: groovy.

I was fortunate enough to win the Ultimate Sharpening Kit from John at Sharpening Supplies last weekend. Yesterday, Big Brown had dropped off a nice box of goodies, Christmas in November………..

I received a BIG DMT diamond stone, used for initial sharpening/shaping bevel, etc. Also, a DMT stone holder/base was included. Two BIG Norton waterstones, one a 1000, and one a 4000/8000 combo stone, both in a really nice case that is also used as a sharpening station/stone base.

I am very pleased with the quality of all of these items, no junk here, just first class workmanship and pride in what you do. And, I received this in just a few days after the drawing. I have no ties to John or his company, but suffice it to say that should the need arise, he certainly gets my business. Sure is nice to deal with a dependable and top rate company that carries “the good stuff.”

Thanks again, John, and my thanks to SMC.

Thanks for the information. As someone who is just getting back into woodworking, I'll need all the input like this that I can get. John's site does look good. It's very informative. Now that I know the quality is good as well it's a place for me to bookmark and visit when I'm ready for sharpening equipment.

We here at Penn's Woods would be happy to start helping with donations free stuff drawing. We got lots of nice wood turning stock here we would be happy to donate to help get more of this salvaged material turned instead of rotting away in the woods or being burned as firewood. Just point me in the right directions and we'll be more then happy to help out.

Thanks
