Howie,
Woodfinder.com will give you a list of nearby mills. There have to be 50 small mills within 100 miles of your location Many do not have kilns so if you need kiln dried be sure to ask befor you visit. Most have reasonable prices and are competitive. Just be sure you know what you are buying. The price for no. 2 common will be less than half of select and better or 1/3 of FAS. Do a yellow page search of surrounding towns. Fiske is a good mill near you.

Howie,
I've had pretty good luck at www.downesandreader.com (http://www.downesandreader.com) . They have a real good selection of domestics as well as some exotics. They're located in Stoughton, Ma.

hey Lou,

Where on the Cape are you from? I grew up in Middleboro but now reside in Wareham. By the way, I have purchased from Downes & Reader and they are ok.

check out New England Hardwoods http://www.newenglandhardwood.com/ or the woodery http://www.wooderylumber.com/.

Both are relatively close to Worcester, especially the Woodery, and I've had great service from both. Very down to earth folks. Like Lou said, Downs and Reader is nice and a pretty large operation in comparison to the two I mentioned.

If you head in different directions there's Highlandlumber.com if you feel like a drive to NH, or cwghardwood.com just south of Springfield on 91 and forestproductsassociates.com just south of the Vt line off 91 (they are pretty small and limited).
