Does anyone know where I can find plans for a Murphy bed that doesn't look like an ugly plywood box?

Cheers
Hans

Hey Hans:

Just out of curiousity I Googled ...Murphy Bed Plans...... Woodworkers Journal had a catch phrase of "bed by night, lovely furniture by day".

Should get some choices.

I bought the hardware kit from Rockler, great project. I'm at work and the exact info is in my file at home. I will forward more info tomorrow.

Hans, the "secret" to making a Murphy Bed attractive is what you do with the surrounding cabinetry and the "bottom" of the bed. At the heart is always going to be "the box"!

I got the Hardware kit thru Lee Valley & Veritas Item Number 12k9830 $215 . The company name is C.A.B. Inc1-877-966-3852.
It was a well done kit!

Enjoy, Steve

I am working on a murphy bed using the hardware from Create-a-Bed (http://www.wallbed.com/). I still need to add the molding, I am now working the on the desk top and upper cabinet that will be to the left of the bed.

The kit that Rockler sells is the one from Create-A-Bed.... sold at a lower cost than direct from the factory. It comes complete with plans for either a plywood or particle board cabinet (a couple pieces must be plywood for strength).

One of the ones I built used raised panels rather than plywood on the front, with the blessings of the folks at Create-A-Bed. The front is part of a torsion box foundation for the mattress, but no apparent problem substituting the rail/stile/panel front.
