Hi, I have been busy with this Oak Library for a client, here are some pics. I also trimmed out the windows and doors to complete the look. Enjoy!

Great work Gail, I especially like your details and the color contrast between the wood and walls. Did you pick the wall color too? Enjoyed your post.

nice work gail

could you describe how you go about finishing the book cases ? are they stained and top coated in your shop complet, or is there some additional finish work done on site? Is it a sprayed finish ? I have one of these jobs comming up and welcome input.

thanks

Hi all - thanks for the nice comments, here is a little more info:

I trimmed out the windows and doors last month - here is the windows stained, walls painted, floor refinished - all by customer, here is the casework in the room

See "" (http://www.woodworking.org/photo/displayimage.php?pos=-6047)

Here is the cases up - with the top trim and bottom installed - I have already llevelled and screwed into the studs

Here is one of my installers Kristin - using the Dewalt nailer - installing the trim around the cases.

I finished all the casework at my house, as well as the shelves, all of the face frame trim and baseboard was stained but not clear coated. I used a Campbell stain - water based and a Ceramithane clear coat. It dries in 30 minutes. So once the frame was on, I was able to wipe 2-3 more coats as I went during the 2 day installation. The bookcases have a seperate kick or base, then the case, and then the top trim to reach the ceiling. Then the face frame is cut to accomodate any variation in height.

Thanks!

I love the joinery details at the corners. You did a great job.

By the way, I could use one of those installers on my next few cabinet installs! I've been doing some myself and have learned to stay away from painters and "supervisors" that are "here to help". :o

You obviously spent your time wisely in the details and it paid off. Congrats again on such a nice looking room. The way you framed in the door and windows really ties everything together. :p

Very nicely done Gail! I like your attention to detail on the whole project. That reminds me of the Oak library wall I built. Did you use plywood or solid oak for the cases and shelves?

I wish I knew people like you down here, no one wants to do this type of work and do it right around these parts. I am down to just me these days!

Gee, Gail, I've been wondering where you've been for a while, and NOW I see.:D Looks Great. What's up next?

Thanks everyone... I appreciate the comments. Kelly, I wish there were others doing the same thing closer - it would be a great opportunity to learn (and get help when needed!).

What's next? Well I got a call yesterday from a client in a new home with a laundry list of projects - I am meeting with her next week - one thing that she wants is one of those lifts in a cabinet for her plasma tv...so I am going to research that - I am sure I will need some help from you all with that, so I will be back.

Yesterday I took the day off - today it's time to clean the shop...OH, and it's bad.

Thanks again, Gail

Boy Gail, you don't post often, but when you do, you sure post some nice work!

Then again, with all that work to, I guess it don't leave you much time!

Fantastic, the client must be tickled pink!

Thanks!

Thats great Gail! I like how you arranged the pics so that it looked like -just a little cabinet beside the woodstove- oh, it's actually a corner unit-, no it extends past the corner to the door-, oh my goodness, it runs the entire length of the room!

Did the client have an Arts and Crafts style home already and wanted the bookcase to match? Or did they add those windows to start the A&C theme in that room?

Thanks for sharing!

hi Gail, Just catching up on SMC. Great job. I really like how you tied in the window casing with the rest of the library. Really unifies the whole room.
take care,
