Hi John,

I've never seen one nor heard of one. Sorry. But as long as the iron is sharp and held firmly it shold work well.

Take care, Mike

I believe Simmmons (note the different spelling) made the Keen Kutter planes. If you have the spelling right (Simmonds), I haven't heard of that manufacturer of planes.

The Keen Kutter planes are generally accepted as good planes, probably as good as Stanley.

E.C. Simmons was basically a retailer, a wholesale hardware dealer. Keen Kutter tools were made by several different companies. The single 'K' were based on early Bedrock planes with the rounded sides, the double 'KK' version based on the Bailey line.

Take care, Mike

I had a Simmonds like a stanley #5 that had a stamped steel frog. I traded it for a Miller's Falls smoother that works a lot better. I was lucky to find a K5 corrugated plane at a pawn shop for $4 (gloat). I really like the adjustment mechanism and the heft of it. I use it more than my Stanley #5.
