This is mostly the LOML's project. I helped with some of the stuff she wasn't comfortable doing, but most of the credit goes to her :) The entire table is Ipe, and the design was taken from a recent issue of Fine Woodworking. The top is 6' in diameter, and the finish is Penofin exterior for hardwood. This is one heavy table. Enjoy the pics.

That's impressive, especially the fitting of the edging to the center slats. How are the two attached? I see some white dots in one of the underside pictures. Is there a slot cut in the edging that the slats fit into, and what I see are screw heads?

I built the same table this summer. Ipe is tough on the tools and very dusty, but it's beautiful stuff - especially with the Penofin finish. Your table looks terrific! - Enjoy it!

Nice job. I'm willing to bet you retired at least one router bit or saw blade after shaping that stuff.

Really nice job!

That thing has to be pushing close to 200 lbs. I saw that project in FWW and wished I had a deck to build one for. :)

Thank you everyone for your comments. I'll make sure the LOML reads this thread later.

Mike: Yes, there is a slot in the outer ring. The tabs on the center slats are glued and screwed.

Von: It takes two strong guys to move the top. We moved the base out to the patio then set and screwed the top on the base.

Bob: We are considering purchasing the chars - we aren't that confident in our skills yet :)

Kelly: We used Gorilla Glue on the outer ring and Tightbond III on the base and top slats.

Bryan,

Another thought......
Have you considered placing Four additional "foot pads" under the bottom - to keep it off the floor a little? Just wondering....
Again - great work!

Wow,

It looks great. Great finish too. Next year LOML plan to work on building a patio area....I'll have to keep this table design in mind.

I really like your table. The design is great, I especially like the curved double post legs and the finish is very attractive.

Good job!

sharp looking piece. I love IPE, just not the dust and splinters :)

Great job and your LOML should be highly congratulated as it turned out very well!
