Gents, Rod Peterson brought up an interesting point about the system time stamps. The Linux systems come with "the" network time protocol server. With a little reading, you can synch. it to the Naval Observatory, tick.usno.navy.mil or tock.usno.navy.mil. A properly running NTP server, after a few days, will have you as close to tick or tock as your hardware will allow. It knows how to correct for propagation delay to its trusted source, and your computer hardware drift. Once it is setup, you can forget it.

Ken,

Thanks, but we already have a mechanism in place for synching
the system timestamp to a trusted source based on that very
protocol. If you happened to have looked hard enough, you
noticed that we were 1 min. 12 seconds off (close enough for
gov't work?) :D. The discrepancy was located and taken care
of.

Thanks for the heads up!
