Hi,

First of all: I am NOT the "Erik Hammarlund" who joined back in 2003. (I've got a very unusual name--anyone want to lay odds on the chances of that happening? Weird.)

Anyway, hello. I look forward to reading up here. I am a relatively rank amateur hoping to get involved in some turning, which I have not done in about 15 years. So prepare yourself for a lot of stupid questions.

And if this BB is anything like the others I've posted on, I better describe my tools ;)

For turning, I'll be working on an old Putnam lathe (http://www.owwm.com/PhotoIndex/detail.asp?id=5041) which I picked up for free :) except mine is in better shape than the one in the picture. However, at the moment I've got no tool rest so if anyone has a lead on a tool rest, I'd be much obliged to hear about it. For BS work, I recently picked up one of these (http://www.hitachipowertools.com/store_item.php?iID=195&arrPath=1,11,55,p195,) for extraordinarily cheap (it's been a lucky year). Together they are overkill for my skill level, but at those prices I can't complain.

I live out on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts--seems everyone here is in the midwest? Am I on the wrong board?

Anyway, I look forward to learning. Lots.

Welcome aboard! I am not a turner and do not own a lathe (don't have room for one) but do enjoy seeing others work. Pics are always good (except for my stuff then its no pics allowed)

Welcome Erik. No, you're on the right board. It just SEEMS sometimes that everyone is from the midwest, 'cause they post a lot during those long, cold winters. :D (Come to think of it, they post a lot during the long, hot summers, too. )

Anyway, jump right in.

Post my work?

heh.

I've got a ways to go before that happens.

I don't plan to only turn, though. Still, I've gotta:

1) finish wiring my basement for light
2) install lathe
3) install wiring for lathe and bandsaw
4) Use bandsaw to cut up my roughcut lumber to build a workbench
5) find tool rest & lathe chisels
6) find planer
7) sharpen all my freakin' tools ;)

THEN after a couple fo years I might have something to post as a picture.... ;)

Welcome to the creek, Erik.

As far as who is from where, the creek has members from all over the world, countries like Canada, England, Australia, Germany, Poland, Austria, Japan, and the Indian territory west of the Hudson River. ;):)
