One for the moderators

I for one think the mods are doing really well at a job that is basically: thankless, payless and in the eyes of some appreciation less. Considering none of them make any money from it, directly, perhaps nothing more than some brownie points, this is largely a labor of love.

We on one hand are willing to accept our ill judgements, but hold the mods accountable at a higher level, forgetting that they are humans like we are and as such some times vulnerable to mistakes. I wouldn't be one tenth the woodworker I am today without the help I have obtained from the likes of Dave Anderson, Mark Singer, Jim Becker, etc. and Dennis is a legend in our neck of the woods.

I have no reason to doubt that they will do anything less than what's best for this community, as they have demonstrated repeatedly for the last several years. Let's keep SMC going in the true spirit of community that it has always been, the ripples that arise every once in a while will settle down quickly.

Thank you! We are woodworkers just like all of you and we really share the same passion and the desire to improve our knowldge through the great SMC community. For me it has always been about woodworking and design....the other stuff is really a futile waste and does not expand our abilities....I really appreciate th spirt of this thread and I am very optimistic about the future of SMC...why? There are so many great people that have a great attitude and spirit and as always it will rise to the top....it is already happening!

I must say that I have been dismayed by the bickering and "verbal violence" that has been going on at times here of late. And then the moderators step in and intervene, and what do you know but that they get slammed--even by some long-standing, respected Creekers! Sheeesh....a little understanding already!

My opinion is that it reflects the culture. We have more and more people yelling at each other, and less true conversation as our culture becomes polarized. It doesn't have to be that way, and when cooler heads prevail it won't be.

I was moderately active back when this forum was set up, but haven't had time for woodworking for a while. Now my littlest one is big enough that she doesn't need watching as much of the time, I'm back into the shop some. I'm also back to Sawmill Creek.

I am amazed at what a strong community it is. I am amazed that so many of the same people are still here encouraging one another and helping everyone advance their skill. I am amazed that still the most common post is still “which table saw should I buy?”

I am especially amazed that the Creek is still supported by administrators and moderators who volunteer their time, energy, and capital for the benefit of our community. They have been doing this for a long time in sometimes difficult conditions. In a community where almost everyone shares the same spirit their job is usually not too tough, but with strong passions and the vagaries of Internet communication, they must want to pull out their hair (or pull the plug) some times. I am grateful to them for providing this resource to us all. From the time the forum was formed, there have been debates about the TOS. Sometimes members have behaved badly. And I’m sure there have been times when errors have been made by moderators. Through this, Sawmill Creek has remained about the nicest place to be on the web.

Thank you all for being part of the community and thank you especially to the owners and management.

LOL!!! Don't worry Zahid....as long as you are teaching me about handtools? We'll just keep sharing more and more about woodworking and doing skill building exercises. :)
