Good Morning Everyone,

Been off work for a week now and it has been GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Been spending a lot of time with the family, visiting friends, church, cutting firewood, stacking and splitting firewood, working on the final set of cabinets for the youth ranch, needing to get back to working on that computer desk, and last but not least, get a kitchen table made for a customer.

We're finally getting some rain, and boy do we need the rain. It's been so dry here that even our grass has turned into "survivor man".

Anyway, what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks to you all.

Mornin' Dennis. See you slept in today. ;) :D

No woodworking this weekend. As I said in the "Weekend Doin's" thread Friday, it was all about my MOM this weekend for her B-Day. We treated her to Chinese for lunch Saturday and then Prime Rib Saturday night. Yesterday was her presents and then she took off for the Casino. Was getting worried when she hadn't showed up by 8 PM, but she wandered in just before 9 PM.

I took a drive down to "Just Outside of Spring Green" and Spring and I had a good visit. Tried to soak up some more knowledge. Good visit and a good weekend. :D

Glad you enjoyed your week, Dennis.

I spent my weekend in Birmingham, where I performed a wedding for someone who is "family by choice"--the best kind in some cases!!!:D

I got home Sunday evening in time to sand the exterior of a bubinga bowl. That was the extent of my WWing. I did come home to find a box with some zebrawood and purpleheart blanks. Oh boy oh boy oh boy....:D

Went camping Friday night-Sunday morning which was relaxing. Spent Sunday working on things related to my shop changes. This week I'll start moving into planning the newly found space.

I went down to Indiana to Russ’ place for the lumber run (see SMC Classifieds). I picked up 120 ft of maple and another 20 of cherry. I started jointing it yesterday in between baseball and football – busy time of year. The maple is for a friends kitchen - my first full kitchen.

I worked on a couple of small door orders that I've got going. Sprayed black lacquer on an oak entertainment center. Pics to follow at another date and traded for a new GMC 2500 extended cab picumup truck, something to pull the camper with. Other than that the weekend was rather uneventful.

Framed in the remainder of the basement bath and hung the drywall. I hope to have the first coat of mud, rough in the electrical, and the tile floor down tonight.

I spent a long weekend in London Ontario (about a two hour drive west of Toronto) where I helped my brother in law re-roof part of the old apartment building owned by my sister. We repaired and re-shingled a section of roof that is 125 years old and still had the original roofing boards attached with hand forged nails. Most of the boards (elm, I think) were still sound but we did have to replace some near the edge of the roof. We had to be careful because, for the first 4 hours of work there was still snow and ice on the roof.

Here is a close up of one of the nails:

In the evenings I had a complete change of pace. My niece Jessica and I made fruit and nut cakes for Christmas (5 cakes totaling about 18 pounds in weight).

Hi Dennis,

We got the pool drained (kinda like pumping money down the sewer) and I think we located the leak - the housing for the underwater lighting. Spent half of Sunday at church - I run the audio-video-lighting group and it was my turn to do both services. The other half of Sunday was spent fighting with some cheap movie making software and trying to get our vacation snap-shots set to music and burned to DVD's so we could share them with family and friends.

Oh, and two episodes of Midsomer Murders.

Maybe next week some sawdust.:(

Well Frank was busy, so he didn't drop by to visit,

But that's okay, as I was plenty busy. Saturday was my wife's birthday and her first present for the day was peace and quiet - so I took all four of the kids off to do some shopping and suchlike and gave her three quiet solitary hours at home.

Sunday morning was interesting as I am doing my turn at teaching Sunday School. Boy, teaching three-year-olds is very different than seven-yr-olds (last year).

But I also got to spend some more time in the shop. I completed the main construction on these: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=42230
(post #9 is more-or-less what I went with) And this morning I put out some shellac flakes to soak, so hopefully by next weekend I'll have some photos of the finished shelves.

best,

I'm on a mission to clear out some of the scrap wood and scrap-other cluttering things up in the garage-mahal. I was doing fine till I came across a couple pieces that were too good to toss. I need some support legs for the new TS as I'll be using cast iron all the way to the right as opposed to the poor quality Bies extension wing. Well, I started thinkin' . . always dangerous when I'm trying to be efficient.

I'll end up with a support cabinet that will house my miter gauge and what-nots for the TS while providing support to the fence rails. Pics will follow in another post. It makes better use of the wood than just throwing it out but it did put a kink in my clean-o-rama momentum I had going.

Well there's always next trash day ;-)

Bill Pentz and I worked on my dust system, testing. Moved an exterior wall door (joins garage and living space) 24" due to pending kitchen remodel. Reran 2 110v circuits and correctly wired the switches due to some moron installing them improperly in the past.

Nice steak dinner as a treat to the wife (and myself :)) at Ruth's Chris last night.

An enjoyable weekend all in all.

Celebrated my wedding anniversary up in Galena, IL (antique town)with the wife. Stayed up late night reading Woodworking web pages dreaming about how some day soon I'll have a shop again, just as soon as construction on my house is complete.

Had the neighborhood yard sale on Sat. and we were able to make some nice $$$ by getting rid of some of my son's clothes that newborn daughter will not using. Amazing how fast clothes, shoes, jackets, and halloween costumes sell second hand.

I finally got to start on mobile plywood cart so I can get all the sheet goods and scraps in one place and then I have to start on the miter bench. It seems like every time I move the full sheets of ply to work in one area I need to then get to that area. aarrrrrhhhhh !!!

Got a lot of nice complaments on the shop even in it's "rough form" from some yard sale shoppers. I think I said "No Tools are for sale" at least a 2 dozen times :)

I used both days to spend some time in the shop, working but not working hard. First half of Saturday was visiting with a family from Moore, OK on dogs. The have adopted setters from us before, and took home the English Setter we were fostering to fill the void of the old Irish girl they lost recently. The rest of the day was spent working on duct work, as sell as Sunday. Got the remainder of the support for the BS down tube built, then disassembled the entire duct work and cleaned the writing off. Then I deburred the inside of all the fittings with my cordless Dremel. I'm going to paint some of the offending pipes that are badly stained, then reassemble with caulk.
I started one 4" blast gate. Mostly done. Need to build 2 more, and one more 6", and get the caulking on the TS hood to cure. I think I'm getting close!

Jim.

Last weekend I built a wall-hung unit for my mudroom. Basically, it a 7' long set of cubbies. Well, when I went to hang it on the wall, I realized that I had ignored the fact that the trim for the door going into the room would interfere with getting the thing into position. So either the trim had to go or I needed to re-build the cubbies. So...

This weekend I ripped off the door trim & my dad helped me hang the thing. I'll get the trim back up there. Eventually.

I'll provide pics once the face frame is installed. Probably sometime after I get the door trim back up.

Greg,

I always feel some trepidation when leaving the garage/shop door open, especially when I’m being visited by a lot of strangers - like at a yard sale. Much of my machinery is visible from the street when the door is open. Do you take any special precautions, or ?

Built a couple of kitchen cabinet boxes on Friday night. Saturday I had the kids all day as the wife was out shopping. Sunday it was back to building boxes. Hoping to be at the finishing stage on face-frames by this coming weekend.

Outside of coaching my boys flag football, then basketball practice, the wife and I busted tail all weekend trying to get ready for the new granite counters being installed on today (Monday). I hope to have the master bath done by month's end. Then it's off to the next project. I shoot some progress pics sometime this week.

Had Tyler stop by, and he said he actually seen some improvement, beginning to think cleaning the garage is gonna be my retirement hobby sprinkled with bouts of making sawdust.

Still haven't unpacked the DeWalt planer we won, and Tyler pointed that out...thanks T....:)

Pictures? Not sure anybody wants to see 1/4 of the shop clean, maybe when I get to half I'll show a pict of before and after...for those who are really bored...:)

Did get a ton of honey do's done, enough infact the shebeast didn't flinch at all when the bandsaw blades showed up today....appears the little darling is now going home for lunch, and that's about the same time UPS shows up.

So much for sneaking them deliveries into the garage...:)

Al.....who can't wait till the EZ Smart gets here..hopefully after lunch..:)

I've been enjoying the "weekend accomplishments" for some time now. It's nice to see what people are working on. Kudos to all of you that share your passion with the rest of us. After a long weekend in the shop and seemingly getting nothing finished it's nice to come here and see that I'm not the only one in that boat :D . I will however get some pics of a few of the goings on in the shop soon.

I made 16 wallnut plaqes that will have a brass plate on them and used as tropheys at the church golf tournament next saturday, Then I installed the Herc-U-Left on the jet tablesaw, hopefully next weekend I'll be able to put the other one on the bandsaw.

Emptied the Woodsucker container twice, milling up some Black Walnut for a future product on Saturday. Hit the weight room and did some ab and leg work (arms too sore for any upper body:( ). Sunday, had a nice visit from that guy out in the Dells (Karl) and my best bud stopped over to pick up the trailer and some wood. Even did some catching up on the Creek! :) Good weekend but, as usual, WAY too short! :D

hi Dennis, Let's see...Saturday there was soccer for the kids and our plane was in a local air show. Got back home about 1800. Sunday it was ILG-DHN-MEM (that's an easy one)-BLV-ILG. Got home about 2100. Guess I accomplished a lot but never did turn the light on to the shop.
take care,
John

Welding work again this weekend. My Dad and I started our second tractor implement project, a combination carryall and drag. We finished building our Spike Harrow last weekend and tested it to prove the design since my machine designer (me) isn't a professional :)

We finished the lower portion of the drag/carryall, got everything cut and welded and ready to start cutting material for the upper 3 point hitch and frame. Pictures of both projects will be posted when the second is finished.

The weekend was as I predicted...dance class for the younger; karate for the older; an SUV load of book donations for the library; mowed the lawn and family dinner out on Saturday. Sunday brought a little more mowing (the LAST of the season) and then the mower deck was relegated to storage for the winter. It was then on to the local pumpkin festival with the girls (pics!! (http://a-j-adopt.blogspot.com/2006/10/pursuing-pumpkin-patch.html)) for a few hours in the afternoon followed by more landscaping work. A nice home-made pizza for dinner rounded out the day. Oh, it was a really nice weekend in the "daddy" department...we're having some good progress with the older and her behavioral issues as of late.

Oh, and on the hay ride at the pumpkin festival, we passed this little number...I wanted to cry as I had to go home without it...

Rennie,

Not really, I stood in front of the garage the whole time and kept an eye on any "Prying Eyes" I have no problem answering questions and I naturally kept a eye on anyone getting close to walking into the garage. I also kept any tools far enough away from the doors that there could be no "Shop Lifting".

I am fortunate that I live on a cul de sac so traffic is very low and I am friendly with many neighbors and we all keep an eye on the neighborhood. I also have the wired security alarm wired to all doors and windows and it's covered by a central station monitoring company.

I also made sure that I had the 75+ lb Security officer on the job for all to see. :)

Actually, I finished it today. Bookcase out of the Oct 2005 Wood magazine (although I made the legs instead of buying). All red oak (1/4" ply back) to be given to my pastor for Christmas from the congregation. Forgive the quality of the picture, I can never seem to get the color balance right on this thing. (It's not really so red)

Hey John, congrats on finishing that up! I'm sure your Pastor will love it. :) I took the liberty of doing a little adjusting of the pic for a little better "feel" for what it actually looks like. Hope you don't mind... :)

You guys had great weekends compared to me. I didn't get anything done in the shop this weekend, the weather was too cold and wet and I don't have the funds to get the rest of the material I need, so my cabinet is still sitting there in front of the webcam. ;)

I feel like I spent my weekend in a sewer. One of my dogs got sick repeatedly in the basement Friday and Saturday, so I was down there for two days cleaning smelly messes. Sunday one of the pumps on our furnace broke and flooded part of the basement, so I spent that day down there cleaning up more smelly messes. Ack!
