I put beadboard on the ceiling in of our bathroom and it was a real PITA to paint. Now, you can sometimes see bare wood between the tongue and groove joints as the wood expands and contracts with the seasons. I am going to be installing wainscoating next and wonder if anyone ever painted it before installation? I'm kinda wondering if the tongue and grooves will fit together after they are painted.

Dennis,

I always prime all sides and put one coat on the face. If your tongue and groove joint is tight, prime only - my installations have been white, but if you want a color, have your primer tinted to the final color.

Concerning your existing installation - wait until later this winter when things dry out then use an artists brush (cheap one will do) and touch up the bare wood areas. You may still notice, but I'm sure nobody else will. At leats it won't scream at you everytime you walk into the room.

Good luck, Wes
