Came across this today while resting my back from all the wood cutting I've been doing this week. Needless to say that these boys do some HEAVY work to build one of these babies. :D

5,608,312 lb/ft of torque could probably pull up a few trees.

I'd like to see the machinery it took to make it!

That might even be a bit more than my drag bike made....come to think of it, I think one of them pistons is bigger than the bike...:)

Probably makes enough grunt to power my whole shop: just add some belts and pulleys.

It's a monster, all right. But the new class of 8,000 TEU container ships makes it imperative to be able to add "in line" horsepower, as these ships are still running on only one propellor. The market right now is good, with over 80 8,000 TEU class ships on order, most being built in South Korean yards for European owners. The even larger 9,200-9,600 TEU class ships will just about exhaust the limits of one propellor shipping.

(NB: A TEU is a Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, or one of those 20 foot long containers you see being hauled around. There are also 40 foot ones, which, of course, count as 2 TEUs. So an 8,000 TEU class ship can carry 8,000 of those babies. As much as 60% of the containers on these ultra-large ships are stacked up on the deck! )

I saw those on TV, on Discovery if memory serves me.

It is impressive. From what they where saying if they lose a cylander they can disconnect it and limp on in on the rest

Bet you wouldn't need a thin kerf blade if you hooked it up to a table saw.;)

Just thinking about the belt this thing would use, much less the pully's to get from 102 rpm to saw blade speed....come to think of it, I don't think its gonna fit in my garage anyway...
