OK, to all you geeks out there

Have you ever seen (or do you own) a sprinkler timer (for your house) that you can configure wih the aid of the internet?

I have a wife that is (sarcasm here) unable to walk out the back yard and turn a handle to over ride the sprinklers or maybe set an extra cycle. BUT, since she lives on the internet (work based), I figure she would have the ability to open a browser and do the sprinklers from her desk.

I have googled it but I aint sure about the wording coz I dont get many hits.

Dunno about computer-controlled, but every sprinkler controller I've seen in the last 20 years had a "rain" button (to temporarily disable the sprinklers) and a "manual" button (to force extra cycles). No need to walk outdoors for either of those operations.

If it's that important to keep the peace at home, you could make something up with a pair of 'Y' hose connections, an inline valve, some hose and hose repair kits.


Make up 2 short lengths of hose with standard 1 male/1 female connection. You'd want 1 to be about 6" long, the other 10-12" long.
Put a 'Y' on the faucet. Mount the timer on 1 leg of the 'Y' and the inline valve on the other leg.
Use the 2 lengths of hose to connect the output of the timer and inline valve to your other 'Y' fitting.
Close the inline valve and turn the water on at the faucet.When the timer kicks on, you get water.
If you open the inline valve, you get water.

No operator intelligence required. :rolleyes:

I have to admit it takes me close to an hour to change the settings on the timer for my drip system. I buy the most expensive batteries hoping to postpone it as long as possible.

For your wife there's something she'd like available for under $100, maybe
a good Christmas present??

I've got a Hunter ICC controller. No HTTP interface that I know of, but I know there is a component you can buy so you can program it on your pc. Maybe with a wireless connection...

Rob take a look at the Smart Home website (http://www.smarthome.com/prodindex.asp?catid=546). They have a lot of info on controlling irrigation systems.

Also look in Home Automation net (http://www.homeautomationnet.com/shopping/). They might have something....:confused:

I agree with Gary. I think my hunter said the same thing. Go to the hunter irrigation web site, I bet there is a unit that will do what you want. Maybe just a module that will interface with their controllers. In fact, try this page:

May not be the exact thing you're looking for, but it may be close. I've found that the Hunter controller is very easy to use, easy to program. Very logical logic. :D Jim.
