View Full Version : Another Flag Case

I recently lost a lifelong friend to a tragic accident and I am planning to make a case for the flag that was draped over his casket.

One of the suggestions I've heard is to use regional woods and thus I'd like to use Mesquite for the main sides and Palo Verde for the splines. I know PV is stringy and tends to split when it dries out and I've never used it for anything. But my friend grew up in Palo Verde, AZ and in some way, I was thinking this would be fitting.

My "source" for the Palo Verde is a large limb that a microburst removed from the tree that was in our back yard about 4 years ago. It's been laying out in the Az sun since so it ought to be dry, maybe too dry. I guess all I can do is try it and see. Has anyone used PV for anything?

And I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding using the Mesquite for the flag case.

Thanks,

Ron
