DK,

Hi. This is the first time I've seen this, so I don't know about the quality. However, I see the "free router" as a big red flag.

Nothing is ever "free". They had to pay for the router, even if it was cheap. I'd rather see them put router money in a better price or higher quality.

Just my 2 centivos.

Regards,

Dan.

First, David, what brand is the router? Is it a "Woodline" brand. My husband works in tool/machine sales and I have never heard of this brand name. You are much, much, much better off buying a recognized brand name---Makita, Porter Cable, Bosch, Ryobi, etc., than buying something that looks it might be an off-brand made in Thailand. What happens if your woodline breaks, you jam a collet, or can't remove a bit? Without local service support and parts availability, you have just bought yourself another router.

I'd suggest you visit your nearest tool/machine retailer and check out the "good" stuff, and give this one a pass.

Just my HO and $.02.

The router table looks fine, but a good router is critical for safety and precision, and I'd be afraid that you'd get neither from the no-name....it might be fine, but I wouldn't want to take the financial or safety risk. There are lots and lots of good quality routers for $100-$200....even if they have less rated HP than the one you were looking at, at least you'd be assured precision, quality, and safety from it. I'd focus on the router and build or scrounge up a table elsewhere.

$100 from Rockler:

Don't know a thing about this router or table, but I'm certain from my dealings with Woodline that they would do whatever it takes to make you a happy customer if you're dissatisfied with the product.

It looks somewhat like a copy of a Bendog Pro Contractor table which is a very nice portable router table. The tables themselves go for about 200.00 ... router not included. the table looks ok and the fence is worth about 2.00. You do't know how flat the top is and how supported it is etc and the inclusion of a router will no doubt be a cheapster of some kind. I would pass. If you want a router table in that style you can mak a very nice one easily with baltic birch for less than 100.00 and put the rest into a good router and router plate. It would make a great shop project for you!

Here is a brief review from The woodworkers Journal Ezine.
http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/ezine/toolpreview.cfm

The router is almost certainly not good quality (I hesitated to use the word junk). I would check out other table designs and manufacturers and compare price. If you like the table, and the price is competitive, then take the free router and check it out. If the price of the table seems inflated compared to other options, then the router is not truly free.

I believe the link said that shipping is free, which is nice. Factor that in, as well as sales tax, if any, when you are comparing price. Sorry if I am stating the obvious. If you can seeit at a wood show, all the better.
