I just wanted to share that I find myself woodworking starstruck here
at SMC. I spent this summer putting together upgrades for my woodshop,
a lifelong first-love, and hobby threatening to go small business.
I am amazed with the wood community here at the creek.

I drove two hours each way to buy a DJ-20 jointer from David Eisan,
a great resource and good standing creek member.
I drove 4 hours each way to checkout and purchase a Sawstop cabinet
saw. The first time I participate in a forum discussion, I later see that
the inventor himself has responded to the thread.

After the dizzy dance of dust collection shopping, I have learned so much
from the often revered Mr. Bill Pentz. He opened my eyes to the
invisible threat of finer dust, and some ways to deal with it.
I ended up purchasing an Oneida cyclone seperator, and metal duct work.
Imagine my surprise to read this weeks posts by the president Mr. Witter.

I was sooo inspired by Bob Smalser's mortise chopping article that
I immediately ordered a German mortising chisel. (not a Swan, but a start !)
Viewing photos of the many fine projects by fellow creekers,
and the sound advice offered by so many, I am in awe.

I am more impressed with a person's work product than the tools that they bought.
I mention these things not to gloat about my own purchases,
but to demonstrate how mightily impressed I am with Sawmill Creek.
I have never much liked the computer, and have always begrudged
the monthly bill for internet connection. Now I am glad to be online,
thanks to the creek.

When I create some worthy projects, I will post them for the
scrutiny of the picture police. I lurked on several wood forums for a few
months, but could not resist joining the creek. I am really wow'ed
by the great contributors and spirit of community.
Keep up the good sharing,
Walt

ps some of you regulars here keep me learning, and smiling !!

Welcome Walt, nice post for sure!

Even though you have not made something you want to show us yet, how about some pics of the new tools :D

We always like to see pics of new tools! :D

Cheers!

Welcome to the Creek, Walt. Dive on in! We sometimes have a small dust-up or two ( ), but generally this is the most helpful and friendliest WW site on the planet. Share your experience by helping us who are WW challenged. Pix of your shop would be nice. :)

Welcome to Saw Mill Creek Walt.

I am often starstruck by the work of my fellow SMC members as well, but it doesn't stop my from posting my best efforts. And my best efforts are getting better. :) My work will never be as good as those of some members, but I am (mostly) happy with the results of my recent woodworking projects.

So Walt, lets see some your work. :)

Walt,

Welcome to The Creek.

Keep reading and look close, you will find more heavy hitters here but you will have to be very observant as some are very quiet and keep a very low profile.

Talented Craftsmen you will find everywhere, the pictures they post are an inspiration and you will most likely make some very close friends.

Walt, welcome to the Creek!

Due to hard work from moderators and members and Creek staff, we have a really great community here. Not to mention some fair to middlin' input from some member's work too... :D

Personally, I would probably have given up on woodworking if not for some great guys and gals here. The information is extremely helpful. The media where communication can happen is often much better than what you can read. And some of these folks write "the stuff we read" too. It is awesome to have a very experienced person respond to a "lowly" post, whether he be pro or advanced hobbiest. And then there are some folks like me. Well, we try... ;)

This place is even worth an occasional contribution! Just a reminder that the Creek is supported primarily by contributions... and some cheap labor. :D

David, who tries to contribute at least once a year or when the pressure is on... :o
