design ideas/plans for crocket set

Hi all,
Any hints on design ideas or where to get plans for a crocket set? We spent a great weekend at a friends lake house and enjoyed playing both Bocce ball and crocket and I thought a custom crocket set would be a great X-mas gift. I've already made a box for their Bocce set, but their crocket stuff needs upgrading. Any help on where to get plans for regulation sizes? Best type of woods to use? How to and how hard is it to turn a solid sphere? Thanks, JCB.

I'd go with a resin ball since wood will absorb moisture, be a pain to keep sealed, and hence subject to warpage and cracking.
