I would like to start by saying hello to all of my new friends and thank you all for such valuable information. I have been researching laser engravers for several months and this is by far the best site going for REAL information.:) My question is in regards to training videos relating to Corels use with a laser IE what will raster what will vector. I have not purchased a laser yet. I have Corel X-3 and I have been using it for sometime with the lessons from Lynda.com. It is a great tool for rookies. I am looking for your input on J. Stephen Spence's video vs. Roy Brewer's vs. John Mcdaniel's. There is a wide price range here. With my work schedule it will be very hard to take a class so that is why the videos are my only option at this point. Thanks for all of your support.

I'm only familiar with Roy Brewer's. I have used it to help train 3 different employees with no previous Corel experience and found it to be really helpful.

Foster Coburn's DVD "Corel Draw X3 Unleashed" is very good and has 6.5 hours of screen shot video showing techniques and tools in use.

Best money I've spent yet on how-to instructions.

You will find information provided by Roy Brewer and John McDaniel to be solid, usable stuff and as near as I can tell, free of bias.

Well I have purchased J. Steve Spence's video and book. After I receive it and review it I will let you know my opinion.

Well I received it and in my opinion it gives a very generic overview of what you can do with a laser with a few detailed tricks. It is not what I expected however I will use some of the tricks I learned.

Weird advice you may find there in that video like the plastic vector cutting table & if you ever find out who is the manfacturer of that black dye he uses for the color fills please let me know !

I bought my tape months before I bought my machine , I was prepared when it came.

Mike:

When you get a few minutes, try a couple of the sample "videos" here:

See if that set of CD's might be helpful.

I have Mr. Brewer's CDs. I did not know anything about Corel when I received them, He explained what I needed to know about Corel for the laser without all the extra stuff you get from most books. Without these CDs it would have taken much longer to get the thing to work. Between this forum and the CDs the laser has been tamed to a point that it almost does everything I ask of it. Cheers, Mike

A note about the sublimation/laser engraving "guru" J. Stephen Spence to anyone intersted in purchasing his books/video tapes.......

He has been convicted of possession of child pornography. You can read about it here on the West Virginia Sex Offenders Registry.

The goal of this post is to educate.

If this post would be best served in another place to educate people, I would appreciate the admin moving it to that location.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Al,

I don't hate the man, I just don't like what he did, and figure people have a right to know since it's public record.

Thank's for the warm welcome. :)
