I am installing the long awaited kitchen base cabinets right now.
Do I need to install a "ledger" board on the wall where the dish washer will be installed? If so, is a 1x enough, or do I need a 2x material?
Thanks All!
Jim

Hi Jim,
Depends on what your counter top is.
If its granite, corian, ceramic tile , etc.
A piece of 5/4 x2 screwed and glued will be fine.
If you are using post formed formica with back splash and
the dw has cabs on both sides you are fine with out.
Hope this helps.
PS screwed and glued, cause chances are on 24" you only
get one stud.

Going with Zodiak, simular to Corian. Heading to the shop to come up with some 5/4 material??? Not to sure I have any, but will face glue and plane some white oak.
Thanks again!

I always do because it easy to do. Just about anything will work. I also do the corners behind lazy susan cabinets.

Per is right, of course, but IF you can't get/find any 5/4 board, you can use 1 by and add a couple of vertical boards up from the floor for an extra bit of counter support. I did this with my recent tile countertop project and it worked fine, no deflection. :) 2 by material can sometimes be thick enought to interfere with the D/W install.
