Hi,
I am a newbie turner.
I have a cheap set of lathe tools, but I am pretty good
at knifemaking and sharpening.
I have used my diamond stone to polish my 1/8" parting tool.
I did not change the profile, but merely put a mirror finish on it.
It still does not cut very well at all. I lost my digital cam in a recent divorce
so I can not show a pic of it. I have searched the net for images of the geometry for a sharp parting tool. Does anyone have a closeup pic or hand dwg of the geometry of the cutting edge ?
Thanks
Mike

I just touch my parting tools to the grinder for a few seconds on each side and be done with it. Using a hone is fine to bring a little "crisp" back to a sharp tool, but it's not going to sharpen a dull tool too effectively. Some parting tools "out of the box" are factory ground to too blunt of an angle. The hollow grind from the wheel will often fix that as you sharpen...
