Anyone have a good source for decorative bress banding? I am looking for some brass (not too thin) decorative banding for a coffee table that someone wants me to make.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I have used the brass banding carried by Woodcraft on jewelry boxes, humidors, etc. with good luck. It's thin, but not so much that it will bend under it's own weight. Probably about 1/32".

It comes in 36" lengths if I remember correctly.

One last thing - no matter where you get it, remember to sand with very fine steel wool to polish it and then immediately spray it with clear lacquer to keep it from tarnishing. I had great results after doing so. Then glued it into the recesses that I cut using epoxy.

Good luck!

Before coating brass, I suggest you use some lacquer thinner and wipe it down, then don't touch it with bare hands. Fingerprints will eventully show up if not removed.
