the most inexpensive way to get stainless steel blanks would be to visit a local sheetmetal or metal fabrication shop, and see if they would be willing to sell you some leftover blanks from jobs they have done. Or you could try Online metals .com. they sell small quantities to the public

I just got an email from ID Plates our of Mesquite TX so I am going to see
what they have to offer. The plates I need have to be precut to different
sizes w/holes in them, then laser engraved.

Thanks
Mike

ASAP Source in Ann Arbor, MI carries a wite variety of metal and plastic. They are local to me so I just call them up if I need something but they do a lot of mail order. They are not cheap though, at least for steel tube/angle/plate which is what I'm usually looking for.

Try www.onlinemetals.com (http://www.onlinemetals.com)

Typically a ittle better pricing then Mac Carr, as long as you are not paying them to cut piece to size.

I know there is a fellow SMC member that has large lasers for cutting steel and stainless. Maybe Rob Bosworth?
