You can't go wrong with either Lie Nielsen (http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?sku=DS) or Adria (http://www.adriatools.com/handsaw/dovetail_saw.html).

And the least expensive place to purchase Lie-Nielsen is generally Clarence at The Fine Tool Journal, typically with free shipping.

For Adria, Lee Richmond at The Best Things currently has the better price.

The Lie Neilsen is a fine saw....I have a few favorite older ones, but the Lie Nielsen cuts as well or very close and is comfortable....I remove a little of the set with a stone ....it will grab less and feel smoother

Scott,

Another option is a vintage saw. I recently bought my first dovetail saw. I looked at the Adria saws and at Mike Wenzloff's saws, but unfortunatly, my budget would not allow either. Another member here recomended a fellow in Florida, whom he had bought vinatage saws from. I ended up with a sweet cutting Bishop made in the late 1880's or early 1890's at a great price! It came sharpened, and ready to cut! I still have the fellows e-mail address, PM if you are interested.

If the budget ever allows, I would sure like to have one of Mike W's saws. Check out his web site

I reccomend Mike Wenzloff's saws, although he is too humble to mention them. :p

So many nice saws, you can pick up vintage ones, buy new Wenzloff, LN, Adrias, Leif Hanson makes great saws, and so does Tim Hoff. I have not used one of Leif's or Tim's saws, but they look nice and I hear good words by people using them.

Hard to beat a saw you get used to, so pick one and get used to it.

Oh, and then you have dovetail specific, small tenon saws that many use for cutting dovetails, gent saws, Japanese style pull saws (an entire category in itself, etc...

You should post in the Neander forum, that's where you'll get the best opinions on hand tools.
