Just finished this project-a Curly Mahogany Armoire. It is all solid wood with the exception of the back which is plywood covered with my own hand cut Curly Mahogany veneer; the two shelves are 3/4" plywood covered with my hand-cut Curly Mahogany veneer on the tops and the front edges;
and the drawer bottoms which are also plywood. The drawer fronts are Curly Mahogany and the back three sides are poplar. The drawers are half blind dovetailed; the door fronts are frame and panel. The finish is Waterlox Sealer/finish-eight brushed coats; then rubbed with 0000 steel wool and then rubbed with Butcher Wax. The hinges are Blum 170 degree; and the drawer do not have slides---near perfect fitting!
The wood has a beautiful iridescence and glow; wonderful light play. Sorry about the pictures…used a spot light and my cellphone camera.

;) Supplier: I have no issue writing
where I bought the wood; bought it at Gilmer Wood (they have a website); a few years ago. I bought 300 bf
of 4/4 and 200 bf of 5/4. Unfortunately it was relatively expensive even back then. Paid $16.50 bf for the 4/4 and $17.50 bf for the 5/4
stock. Plus truck to So. CA. Three months ago, I traded some of it for some spectacular Curly Koa--stuff I have paid.....let's say way too much money for in the past! (Not over paid...just very expensive!) I have enough left to do either a matching unit, or a small bench for the bedroom and a small side table.
Dimensions: I did not use any plans.....The outside dimensions are:
width: 37"
Height: 72"
Top part: 38 1/2"
Bottom part: 33 1/2"
Depth: 18"
Height of Drawers: each approximately: 8 1/2"
The shelves are fully adjustable.
Hinges: I used the Blum Hinges because I liked the adjustability options especially with wood movement during various seasons...heating & cooling.

The colors in my pic aren't very good but I've got BLO on my project right now and they look the same. Well, yours looks much better but the grain looks the same. :D
