I just completed this 10 inch red oak pedestal table with a 48 inch top. I did
cheat just a tad though and should be ashamed, I bought the pedestal.
I just can't make them for what I can buy them for. My time is better spent
doing other things in the shop.

To make the apron I resawed some oak into 3/16 inch by 3 1/2 inch strips and
then bent them around a form I made. I had pictures of the form but the file
got corrupted some how and lost them. Anyway I ended up with two pieces
each half a circle and a solid piece of oak.

The legs were rough cut on 2 inch oak within a 1/16 and a pattern with double
stick tape was used to hold it on. Then they were routed with a solid carbide spiral bit.

The top was glued up in two 24 inch panels then run through the WBS before
being glued together. The they were rough cut to within a 1/16 or so and then
hand routed with a trammel and a solid carbide spiral bit.

All parts were sprayed with Pre-Cat before being assembled.

All and all these tables are fun to make. I have another to do now but it will
have a slider in it for a few leafs.

Outstanding job! There is a lot to like about this table!

It's too bad your "form" pictures went bye-bye as I would have liked to see that setup. I have this idea bouncing around in my brain (uninhibited by real brain matter probably...) for a project that may best be suited to bending an apron on a form as you have done.

Very nice Dave.

For the aprons, did you use a one sided form and clamp the bent lam to it, or did you use a two sided form and squeeze the lam between them, or did you use a one sided form and vac bag it?

How did you tie the two joints of the two half circles together?

John, I made a one piece form and bent the strips around it. It work pretty good although an extra pair of hands would have helped.

The two halves are held together with a small metal strap with 3 screws
on each side.

I'll take some pictures tonight of the form and of the apron closeup.

Very nice table, Dave! It reminds me of one that sat in my grandmother's kitchen for as long as I can remember.
