The first is a pair of lamps, black walnut and box elder. Simple designs, but fun little projects.

This is a piece of eucyliptus burl with a maple cap. I always see the ebony / blackwood caps and wanted to do something different.

Lastly, a salad bowl set from mahogany.

As you can tell it has been a busy past couple of days for me. As always, questions and tips are welcome.

I still am not sure about the maple cap on the aust burl, it gives a different feel, but don't know if it has enough contrast. Maybe would have been better if it was a different color burl, a red with the maple...

I like the maple cap, because it appears to match a color found in the burl. Contrast is good, but is not the be all and end all of art, it's just one way of doing stuff. Originallly I think it was just a way for the artist to say "look at this cool ring I put on here" where he didn't want it missed by the observer that it was a separate piece of wood.

Very nice work John. I think the color of the color is fine, but for my taste, it's a bit tall. It takes my attention away from the beautiful hf.

Thanks, I was thinking about that myself. Currently it is 3/4", and I was thinking it might have been better as 1/2. I measured the curve to be at 70% of the height.

I have been trying to find a style I like for this shape, not all that easy of a process.

Very nice turnings there John. The lamps look nice and the mahogany bowl look good next to the pumpkins. :) Keep'em coming. We like to see pics of stuff made on the spinny thangs. ;)
