I was just down in the Cincinnati area. I was in a guy's shop and he had a 16" SCMI jointer that he's trying to sell. Quite a monster. I don't think I should post the guy's phone number, but if anyone is interested, PM me and I'll call him and give him your phone number. He just bought a Powermatic jointer and I think he could use the room in his smallish shop.

Well big fella, I happen to know someone personally who's good at lifting heavy things... and I'd be willing to help if ya need it :D

Sounds like a nice machine. I've been looking very hard at 16" jointers for awhile. I just can't pull the trigger on a machine that heavy duty when I am thinking of retiring in a few years.
I have looked at a few machine and let me point out a few things to keep in mind.
1) Alot of the older SCMI jointers have an unajustable out feed table. It is one piece with the body. This makes knife setting a little tricky and may compromise set up.
2) When you have a 16" jointer you have visions of jointing large timbers, Most likely the infeed table is 4' or slightly longer. I would be hopeing to flatten 14' and 16' boards for stairs. I reality, jointing a 5/4" X 12" X 16' is still a formable task with a 4' infeed table.
I hope this dosen't sound like sour grapes, because I would still love to have one, but ....

Thanks Jim.
1600 lbs...a piece of cake for you. My truck on the other hand might scream a little.
BTW. I should do a better job reading these posts. This jointer is not for me. A friend of mine lives in Cincinatti and is interested in it but I have the truck.
I will get some pictures for ya.

I believe the bed on the jointer is 8'. Which puts it a foot and a half longer than the bed on my truck, not to mention 600 lbs. excess payload.
