Just got a couple of Lie-Nielsen planes a 102 & 103. Really nice tools, but very tiny. A lot of people I showed them to thought they were toy planes. I really like them thought, does anyone else think they are tiny?? Kind of a dumb question I guess...

Depends on your perspective, I guess. I just got an old Stanley #18. Previously my only other block plane (besides the #62) was a little bronze LN. Now the #18 looks huge to me!

I have the 102 and don't let the size fool you.....it is a performer! Very versitile....I even use it as a smoother...great for flushing joints on panel glue ups....bevel edges....fitting doors...Terrific!

Well, they are small, but do the job for which they are made beautifully. And small in your hand can be a really good thing when you're trimming a piece in tight quarters, or with an extended arm.
Good luck, and enjoy your new tools.

I work with smaller planes than the 102 and 103. So I guess it depends on where you are coming from.

I love my Lie-Nielsen low angle 102 block plane! How did I ever get along before without it!:)

I also have the LN 102 & 103, they are used as much as my standard sized planes when involved in smaller work.

We have a cabinetmaker locally who always carries the LN 102 in his pocket, to the coffee shop, grocery store, etc. Some carry a pocket knife,,,,,,,others a LN block plane.

I got both of these from Lee Valley , I used them to fine tune the fit of a bunch of doors ( where the door meets about a 1/4 inch of trim ). They were sharp and perfect for the job. And the right price
