An ad in yesterday's paper listed a jointer and a planer, so I called the guy. Turns out he was just a couple miles away. An 80+ year old fellow that was slowly but surely selling off his whole shop, after fifty or more years of woodworking as a hobby.

Anyway, what i got was a Delta 6" jointer (to replace my old Chinese clone) and a 15" stationary planer. Couldn't find a brand on it, but the motor tag says 3 hp, made in 1988, in Taiwan. Dusty from several years of non-use, but both Jointer and planer are in good working order, with original manuals and several sets of extra blades.

Also, in taliking with the fellow, I found out about a local sharpening shop to do the jointer/planer blades.

Anyway, for $600 cash, we loaded both tools onto my truck. Fairly good deal, I think. Now I can finish planing all that cherry and walnut I bought from Robert Mickley a couple months ago...

Okay, Scott. How'd you do that?

Jim, you cannot use HTML code to display your pictures anymore for SMC security reasons. You need to either link to them via the Image button (yellow with a mountain) or via direct upload to SMC. In fact, it's really best to upload them so they stay in the SMC archives...web sites and files stored remotely have a good chance of going away sometime in the future.

That all said...NICE HAUL!

Nice score, The jointer is a 37-190. I had one for about 9yrs. Served me well. The planer looks like a DC-380 clone. another great machine. Congrats on your new machines.

Nice score, always nice to get "stuff" whether its new or not.

80+?
Hope I make it that far and still can make sawdust, kind of sad for the guy I bet.

Enjoy...:)

Sounds like a great buy to me!
Finding old machines in good shape is becoming increasingly rare. All of the ones I have seen are built like a truck, work very well and hold alignments great.
Have fun!

Nice score Jim!!, now Wheres this local sharpening outfit your talking about.

It's Youngstown grinding. On Mahoning, just East of the bridge. Sorta across from the big U-Haul building.

I haven't been there yet, but the old fellow said he'd been using them for years, and they do a good job on planer knives for 50¢ per inch.

I'll be giving them a try, right after I finish planing that cherry.

Thats cheap enough, I'll have to check them out. Theres another place right down the street about 1/2 a block called baker plastics. Been wanting to get in there and check out UHMW plastic prices
