Wood treated with creosote (redwood)

Any hope of salvaging it? Must be an old water tower. Wondering if it can just be bandsawed off. A 3x8 gives a lot of material to work with. I don't think I'd want to put it through the planer or jointer until it's off.

Creosote is a carcinogen. PLus it stinks and sticks all over you when you cut wood saturated with it. I say no IMHO.

I didn't know creosote was a carcinogen (isn't everything) but the dust will blister any skin that is exposed when sawing it.

I worked with a guy that has a bandsaw mill and he got a bunch of old bridge timbers from the county. He would saw them up into 4/4 planks for fence boards.

I always knew when he had been sawing those timbers because his face would look badly sunburned.
