This was a project I worked on last year. The client wanted rustic beams in the ceiling and a "U" shaped bar...

I assisted in the beam work but was not the mastermind behind them. An architect and an engineer were involved to make sure we didn't bring the house down, and the friend I was working the job with did most of the plan work... The beams are solid Beech grown right here in Ohio and put up semi wet. The largest ones are 6"X8"s. The arches were cut on my bandsaw, pieced together on the floor and hoisted into place. Most other beams were carried up a scaffold and placed by hand. No tricky jointery on these though, the engineer spec'd huge lag bolts on everything.

The bar however was pretty much handed to me after the design work was done. The client wanted solid Walnut. I bookmatched panels, steam bent trim, carefully matching color and grain the whole time....

When finished with the build, the "designer" came in and said "Looks GREAT, now, we'll get the Java gel stain on it and it'll REALLY pop.." :(

Please don't hate me for the finish on this one..... Clients (or designers in this case) win in decision making. All I can do is hope that someday a new homeowner strips off all the nasty brown goop.

Oh..... and the pannels on the front are leather. The pics were taken before they were distressed and dyed.

Thanks for taking a look.

Cool stuff, Mark. Sorta a shame on the bar color, but I guess the client always wins.

I can only look and admire. It is wrong to be envious of such talent.

Mark:

Niece workmanship. The bar is a knockout. As far as the customer goes, my dad always said " the customer is almost never right, but he/she is always the customer".

I hadn't seen this piece before Mark. The ceiling is stunning. I can't imagine how much fun you had w/ the bandsawing of those beams <G>

As to the bar, excellent piece, shame on the color but the shape and form look excellent.

Great work as always.
