After a couple years of bowls, it was about time to try a goblet or two. Here are my firsts. The one in the back is #1, Left #2, Right #3, Front #4.

Each have a coat of shellac, followed by friction polish.

This was also a test of a new turning tool....

Bought the Hunter Carbide hollowing tool. It's basically a cup shaped scraper with a solid carbide tip. That tool is awesome! I basically used it for hollowing after the gouge has gone as far as it can, and also for cleanup - leaving a clean finish on the inside of the piece.

I've noticed using it on those goblets that very little sanding was needed on the inside. I think I started at 220 grit.

It's not a solve-all solution like their website implies, but my first impression is that it's an excellent tool to have in the arsenal.

I'm not related to any of these guys, just a happy customer.

To put it in scale. The one in the rear is about 7" tall x 2.75" in diameter.

Personally, #3's my fav, but I'm partial to bloodwood and zebra.

The other woods are, cherry in back.... #2, and #4 contain Zebra, yellowheart, maple, bloodwood, cherry

VERY nice Adam....

I would have to say that #4 get's my vote. I personally think it's scale is just about perfect. Also, the consistancy of the curves and the over all uniformity is very nice.

#1 is pretty good too, but there's too much going on there visually for me. Also, the stem looks a bit "last minute" and the curve of the cup portion seems to flatten out a bit about midway. That's strictly my oppinion.

#2 & #3 are nice in color and that makes them pleasing to the eye, but I think the scales give them a tad of a "practice run" look.

Please don't take ANY of my words personally...... I always try to give a little critisim with kindness or as I like to call it "speaking from the heart". I would expect the same thing from others about each and every piece I make. Besides, if all we ever wanted was praise and good words, we'd only show our mothers.... Know what I mean? ;)

Superb job....

Personally, I think that they are all stunning!!! It's nice work and may not be to everyone's taste but that's never going to happen anyway!!

And like anything else, if you wanted to turn another 10 (or 25, or 100) of these, they would all look different and your fine tuning on each would be quite interesting!!

Thanks for sharing them with us! They were quite inspirational to me!!
