Is there a product that is recommended to prevent lumber from checking. I am storing large pieces of lumber in my shed that I periodically cut from as projects demand and I realized that I am doing nothing to protect it from checking. I noticed one of my walnut boards has developed a crack in the end, this board was a remnant from a prior project. Any product recommendations or procedures would be much appreciated.

Now for the gloat portion of the program just scored a Fuji Q4 Pro for $623 from Amazon, free shipping and no tax. I think that is a pretty good deal on a new unit. Would appreciate hearing people's experiences with this unit. Will be spraying finishes and latex.

Thanks

If the wood is dry you aren't going to achieve anything by endcoating it. Endsealer just slows the drying at the endgrain, prevents it drying faster than the rest of the board, and so reduces splitting.

If you cut a dry board in 1/2 and the end splits, then it was going to anyway, no matter what you paint it with. :o
