Can anyone give me feedback of this machine? At 1 1/2 hp does it have enough guts and weight to be a stand alone planer for heavy duty use?

IMHO, not really I had one for about 9yrs. It's a little heavier then say a "lunch box" planer. because of the induction motor. I found when I got into rough lumber it didn't fair so well. I feel because it still has poly coated infeed and outfeed rollers. If your going to use it to resize already planed stock it will do just fine. With the induction motor you can run it all day long. It does make molding really well. It's more of a middle of the road unit. I can say I never had any problems in the time I had it. I upgraded to 15" planer. Hope it helps.

I've had one for about 1.5 years and it handles everything I've thrown at it. I've sent plenty of rough 8/4 walnut, mahogany and oak through it and never had the slightest problem. A 10' board of 8/4 walnut weighs a ton and it didn't have the slightest problem, same goes for 13' 8/4 mahogany boards.

I've also used it for planing down to 1/8" for insets and for making picture frames.

Try a search, there are a couple of old threads about this planer
