Anyone modify an old laminated blade for use their homemade Krenov style plane?

If so, did you make, modify, or use a chipbreaker?

Thanks

Larry,

I have used an aftermarket LN blade before... You need to make the plane body thicker than the normal 2" or so due to the length of the iron... It works OK, but I much prefer the Hock or David Finick blades.

If you use a blade thinner than 1/4", a chip breaker is a must IMHO.

Thanks Jim. I'm trying to make use of some laminated irons I bought at an estate sale. I was going to cut the iron to length, like JK does in his book, so that the modified end looks like a two-pronged fork. I do have a Finck iron and chipbreaker in the only JK style I own.

That should be ok... if you don't have a chip breaker, and you have a local woodcraft, they usually stock the hock breakers in a variety of sizes...

Good luck, let us know how it works...
