Jim, wish I had a "before" picture... didn't think to take one... it was a big ol' multi-crotch piece that I let sit too long - lost some of it to major splits/checking and this was all I had left....:(

Beautiful piece Mark, it really stands out and grabs your attention.... especially the second photo.

Visualizing that piece spinning on the lathe, it's pretty amazing to me that as much of the bark was retained. I would have imagined that a gouge would have put more of the bark into orbit ("my" gouge probably would:rolleyes: :p ), specifically at the "edges". However, the "edges" look clear and crisp, well defined. That is one very fine job there Mark!
