Does anyone know of a supplier of engravable plates, without using cermark. I don't seem to have a lot of luck with cermark.

We have a business that wants to place an order of 200 if I can find what they are looking for.

Any help would be appreciated.

You don't say exactly what you are looking for, but I have found Airflyte/Tropar Mfg. to have a real good selection of shapes and sizes for painted brass plates. Airflyte/Tropar phones numbers are

Thank you so much for your reply, you are right, I don't say because I am not sure. They perfer plates and I don't want to have to use cermark, so I am open to suggestions. However Airflyte prices are little high for me, I think?

Thanks again and God Bless.

What we normally do is when we want to engrave a plate we get a plate white plate, engrave on it. That takes the coating off exposing the ceramic underneith or porcilen.
Then we take some regular printers ink and rub it all over the plate. Where you engraved the ink will soak into it and where you didn't it will wipe off with just a little bit of alcohol.
It creates a really awsome antique look to it.
Once finished we you have to reglaze or clear coat the plate again.
We usually use them for decorations, not for actual use at a dinner table.

Have you checked JDS. http://www.jdsindustries.com/homepage.htm

They have plates in many sizes and are reasonably priced.

What kind of plates did you find? It is kind of a mystery what you were looking for.

I'm wondering the same now about the plates, I'm not so sure that they are actually talking about ceramic/porcelain, but metal plates. There are a few other options to consider, brushed alluminium brings out a rather good result without the use of cermark, paint sprayed brass also gets a good result. The gold colour shines through beautiful if it were sprayed black.

You should have a look in the history of the forum to find out exactly why you are having the problems with the cermark, Lord knows every laser engraver here has experienced some problem or other, you may actually help others by giving details of the poor results. It may be you have an old batch of cermark (although some have been using stuff as old as 7 years!). Grease, methods of application or quantity all have an effect on how it results.

Lots of people here to help, you should confront the problem, cermark is a good bread and butter element for the laser engraver.

We were not sure what they were looking for, we found some beautiful crystal plates from Crystal Blanc, we found some great ones made of pewter from Laserbits. Now, what are we going to use, good question? Laserbits' will not be available until Dec.15 and we would have to use cermark. We are still working on getting access to Tropar. Basically, . . we're still lost and still searching.

Tropar's number in Texas is 972 875-5831. They are on the internet at www.airflyte.com (http://www.airflyte.com). They will let you link your website to theirs so you have a catalog for your customers to use.

We sent the paperwork in, in July but somehow it got lost, so I sent it again on Friday, now we are waiting on a fax from them? If I don't get it Monday, I will call them . . . again.:)

Zelma:

Contact their HQ in New Jersey. That's where the accounts are opened. They should be able to do it within minutes. 973 822-2400

To be honest, I'm in their Texas territory but I do my business with Chicago. The Texas office doesn't seem to have a sense of urgency.
